3 Colours won 3 awards at the 2012 Master Painters Association Awards for Excellence. We like to think we’re the best in the business – these awards tell us we’re on the right track!

A client asked us to paint the interior and exterior of the newly built additions, then restore and repaint the original section of the home. Co-ordinating with other trades on site was a challenge but nothing we couldn’t handle. We chose Dulux premium paints for this project. High quality paints with a long lasting finish. Preparatory work included filling imperfections on the walls and sanding rough patches. Our painters worked wonders touching up areas that were damaged by concurrent building work. They were extra careful with the newly installed, top-of-the-line windows. The pay-off was a flawless 3 Colours finish. Four months later, the job was complete. Our client was happy, which made us happy.

The brief was to undertake interior and exterior painting of this 8-storey apartment block. Our colour consultants came up with ideas for a ‘facelift’, and the transformation began. We pressure washed the exterior and fixed windows. Then stripped back the metal rails on the balconies for repainting. The Kirribilli winds were going to play havoc with the swinging stage platform needed for the upper levels. We sidestepped this by starting work in February, the least windy month. A good move. The job was completed, ahead of schedule. When it came to the interior, 3 Colours repainted the lifts using an electrostatic spraying system. We tackled one level a day, to minimise inconvenience to residents. Our project manager liaised with residents over access to units. Our local Dulux representative provided the technical specifications for the paints on this project. The three-coat paint process on the exterior will protect the building from the elements.

Cammeray Square is a retail and residential complex close to Sydney Harbour. The façade had deteriorated from exposure to harsh weather. 3 Colours was commissioned to re-coat the timber. First priority, ensure that retail outlets continued trading smoothly and residents were not inconvenienced. Height and safety issues meant installing scaffolding and overhead hoardings to protect pedestrians. We sanded back all timber surfaces. Timber joins were prepared manually before applying belt sanders. Dusty work, so no sanding was done between 1pm and 2pm, and none at the weekend. In this way peak trading times stayed uninterrupted. 3 Colours used sucking bags on the belt sanders to minimise air-borne dust. Cover sheets protected retail and residential properties. Finally, we applied 3 coats of Wattyl Weathergard Decking Stain. This hardwearing substrate is water-based, making the clean-up easy and environmentally friendly. Completion time was four weeks.
