Heritage Art Deco Restoration

3 Colours was engaged to restore and repaint this charming Art Deco building in Darlinghurst. Decades of exposure had left the façade weathered and stained, and extensive surface preparation was required before repainting could begin. The goal was to honour the building’s period character while giving it a refreshed, contemporary look through a modern colour scheme.

Scope of Works

The project included comprehensive exterior and common-area works:

• Surface preparation including high-pressure washing, grime removal, and mould treatment
• Repair and restoration of damaged decorative timber panelling
• Repainting of all rendered and brick surfaces
• Painting of timber elements, metalwork, wrought iron details, garages, rooftop parapets, and plant rooms
• Use of premium coatings designed to protect against future staining, pollution, and moisture ingress

Challenges

Given the building’s age and intricate detailing, each surface required a tailored approach to cleaning and preparation. The team worked carefully to preserve the original decorative elements while achieving a clean, modern aesthetic suited to its inner-city location.
